From heat to cold and rain, Madrid’s autumn has been abruptly interrupted by a cold snap in the capital, with minimum temperatures in some areas reaching as low as 2°C, according to the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET). The capital and many surrounding municipalities will experience a significant drop in temperatures starting this week, with temperatures comparable to those typically seen in late October.
This episode of polar air will bring cold nights with minimum temperatures plummeting below 6°C in Madrid city and reaching 2–3°C in mountain towns such as Rascafría, La Cabrera, Navacerrada, and the surrounding northern mountain range. Municipalities in the south and along the Henares corridor will see temperatures approach 3–4°C, and even lower values are expected in the northeast of the region, falling below 5°C in the early hours of Wednesday. The wind chill is expected to make it feel even colder due to the northwest wind, which will pick up in the early morning.
