Buitrago de Lozoya “Medieval Town” – October 19

We will enter the Sierra Norte de Madrid following the course of the Lozoya River, surrounded by mountains, pine forests and spectacular views. The route will take us to the medieval walls that surround the old town, one of the most beautiful and charming villages in the entire Community of Madrid.

Did you know that Buitrago de Lozoya is the ONLY town in Madrid completely walled? Its origins date back to the Muslim era, and today preserves intact a walled enclosure of the eleventh century, plus a Gothic church and even a museum with works by Picasso. A real journey back in time.

Route details 🥾

Easylevel, about 10-12 km with gentle slope, perfect to enjoy the scenery without rushing.

And the best part: if the weather is nice, we can cool off in one of the areas set up by the river or in the recreational area of the reservoir, so don’t forget your swimsuit!

Halfway through the tour, we will enjoy a picnic on the banks of the Lozoya River, overlooking the Riosequillo reservoir. Good food, good company and fresh mountain air before heading back.

All our routes are accessible by public transport: the bus from Plaza de Castilla leaves us directly in Buitrago. If you prefer to go by car, we encourage you to share seats and expenses with other participants.

1. Wear comfortable walking or hiking boots or sneakers– your feet will thank you!
2. Bring at least 1.5 liters of water– stay hydrated!
3. Pack some food for lunch (a sandwich, fruit, snacks, etc.).
4. Don’t forget the sunscreen to protect your skin.
5. And yes, that swimsuit!

We will go by public transport, so bring cash for the bus, (approx 10 euros round trip) which is not included in the price (under 26 years old free with Transport Pass). If you have your own car, you can bring it and take other participants with you to share the gas.
