Autumn Hike: La Herrería, Medieval Causeway, and Royal Views – NOV 23

Let’s discover the historical and autumnal side of Madrid on a route that will take you back in time. We will venture into the Bosque de La Herrería, a natural treasure that in autumn is painted with a spectacular range of ochres, reds, and yellows, creating a magical and cozy atmosphere. It’s the perfect place to practice other languages with interesting people who live in Madrid while enjoying the serenity of the surroundings.

The Journey and the Scenery:

• Historic Walk: We will walk along sections of the Medieval Causeway (often referred to as Roman), feeling part of history as we tread the same path as people did centuries ago.

• Dream Views: The route will reward us with stunning panoramic views of the majestic Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, observing it from different angles, including the famous viewpoint of Felipe II’s Chair (Silla de Felipe II) and a hidden viewpoint that will make us feel right at home.

• Wildlife: We will have the opportunity to encounter local fauna, such as peacefully grazing horses or goats in the mountains, adding a rustic and authentic touch to our autumn journey.

We will reach the area of Felipe II’s Chair for a well-deserved break and picnic, enjoying the beautiful views of the Monastery and the autumn-tinged landscape.

• Level: Easy-Medium. A route suitable for people with a regular habit of walking, ideal for enjoying without major technical effort.

• Distance: Approximately 13.4 km (circular/round trip, to be determined).

• Elevation Gain 243m

📍 MEETING POINT: Coffe Station in Moncloa🕘 TIME: 9:00 AM, please arrive a few minutes earlier.

TRANSPORT: We will take the bus that takes us directly to San Lorenzo de El Escorial. If you prefer to drive, share seats and expenses with other participants. 10:00 AM BUS for late arrivals.

1. Wear comfortable walking or hiking boots or sneakers– your feet will thank you!
2. Bring at least 1.5 liters of water– stay hydrated!
3. Pack some food for lunch (a sandwich, fruit, snacks, etc.).
4. Don’t forget the sunscreen to protect your skin.
5. And, of course, a lot of adventure!

We will go by public transport, so bring cash for the bus, (approx 6 euros round trip) which is not included in the price (under 26 years old free with Transport Pass). If you have your own car, you can bring it and take other participants with you to share the gas.
