The Blacksmith’s Shop, Medieval Road, and Royal Views – Saturday, July 4

Let’s discover Madrid’s historic and autumnal side on a tour that will take you back in time. We’ll venture into La Herrería Forest, a natural treasure that in the fall is painted with a spectacular array of ochres, reds, and yellows, creating a magical and welcoming atmosphere. It’s the perfect place to practice other languages with interesting people who live in Madrid while enjoying the serenity of the surroundings.

The Journey and the Landscape:

• Historical Walk: We’ll walk along sections of the Medieval Road (often called the Roman Road), feeling like we’re part of history as we walk the same path that people walked centuries ago.

• Breathtaking Views: The route will reward us with stunning panoramic views of the majestic Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, allowing us to see it from different angles, including the famous “Silla de Felipe II” viewpoint and a hidden viewpoint that will make us feel right at home.

• Wildlife: We’ll have the chance to encounter local wildlife, such as horses or goats grazing peacefully in the mountains, which will add a rustic and authentic touch to our fall trip.

We’ll arrive at the Silla de Felipe II area for a well-deserved rest and a picnic, enjoying the beautiful views of the monastery and the autumn-colored landscape.

• Level: Easy-Moderate. A route suitable for people who walk regularly, ideal for enjoying without much technical difficulty.

• Distance: Approximately 13.4 km (round trip, to be determined).

• Elevation gain: 243 m

TRANSPORTATION: We’ll take the bus that goes directly to San Lorenzo de El Escorial. If you’d rather drive, carpool and split the costs with other participants. 10:00 AM BUS for those arriving late.

1. Wear comfortable boots or sneakers for walking or hiking— your feet will thank you!
2. Bring at least 1.5 liters of water: stay hydrated!
3. Prepare something to eat for lunch (a sandwich, fruit, a snack, etc.).
4. Don’t forget to apply sunscreen to protect your skin.
5. And, of course, lots of adventure!

We’ll be taking public transportation, so bring money for the bus(about 6 euros round-trip), which isn’t included in the price (free for those under 26 with a public transportation pass). If you have your own car, you can bring it and give other participants a ride to split the gas costs.
