Staying at the Oso y El Madroño in Puerta del Sol with friends or family is almost a tradition if you live in Madrid, and this statue is already an icon and reference of the city, but what would you think if we told you that in February 2022 there will be 40 replicas of the “Oso y El Madroño” distributed in Madrid. Very similar to Las Meninas of Velázquez

This initiative arises from the contest “Thank you very much, Madrid”, organized by Cadena Ser y el País, together with the Madrid city council. This aims to pay tribute to all the people and groups that fought and continue to fight against the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Since last December 1, the 40 replicas are on display in the main avenue of Matadero and will remain there until next December 19. After these dates, the replicas will be distributed among the 21 districts of Madrid, so from February 10 to 28, 2022 everyone can enjoy this tribute.

The contest was open to any person or group that submitted an original design of the “Oso y el Madroño” of Madrid Of those applicants, thefirst place was taken by the brothers Paloma and Vicente Delgado, with their design “El Cielo de Madrid te Ama” pays homage to anonymous citizens.

Likewise, in order to transfer all the paper designs of the 40 winners to sculpture, there were 5 artists who have given them life from a workshop in Seville.
